How did you arrive at your current role?

I entered the world of marketing through graphic design. As a kid I loved art, and would draw and doodle all the time, much to the chagrin of my teachers and parents. Luckily, I was able to earn my degree and work as a professional designer. As a graphic designer, I felt like I was constantly working with marketing people who were out of touch, so I began to research marketing strategies on my own.  I even completed a number of online marketing courses so I could bring my skills to that role for organizations across a number of different industries. Despite being in more of a marketing role, I still rely on my graphic design skills to produce quality work for our clients.

What does your average day look like?

As a marketing manager here at Sharp Wilkinson there is no such thing as an average day, and that is part of what I love about this job. On any given day I could be working on conversion paths, newsletters, blogs, content, collateral, or a myriad of other projects for clients. Every day is different, and there are never-ending chances to learn new things about marketing and our client’s industries.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s marketplace?

One major challenge we face in marketing is creating valuable content for our client’s audience. We live in a time where anyone can research solutions to their needs or problems online, and the internet is saturated with information. We need to be constantly producing new and relevant content to meet the needs of our client’s intended audience in order to gain their attention.

How does sales and marketing fit into your role?

As a marketing manager at Sharp Wilkinson a lot of my decision making is dictated by our client’s sales and marketing goals. I have to take into consideration the client’s message, personas, buyer’s journey, and lead flow. I know this might sound a bit stodgy to some, but I find all this interesting and I enjoy the process.

What do you like to do for fun?

When I’m not at work I’m usually enjoying my family, playing games, watching movies, or going on an adventure (they keep me pretty busy). I like to stay active and my main source of enjoyment is Jiu-Jitsu, which I have done for several years now. I also like to draw and read when I get the time.
