I am honored to have had the opportunity to intern at Sharp Wilkinson these past five months. Right, when I was offered the position, I was beyond excited, but I had no idea that being an intern at Sharp Wilkinson would give me duties and experiences that not many interns would get. From managing tasks in Asana to learning my way around HubSpot I gained skills that I will always hold on to not only in my professional career but in my personal life as well.

I learned so many things these past five months, these are the main lessons I got out of my internship at Sharp Wilkinson.

Using Keyword Research for Content

I’m not going to lie, my perception of what keyword research is has changed since I started my internship. During my internship, I learned about keyword research and making a keyword report. This is the process of finding real terms that people are searching for, taking those words, and using them on a website to create content to generate website traffic. I think this was so eye-opening for me because it showed me that the content really considers what is relevant. That made me grasp content creation in a new light.

Details Matter

If there is one overall lesson that I can say will stick with me, it is that details matter. Of course, this is something I have been told before, but at Sharp Wilkinson, I really experienced how important it is to pay attention to the details. I would check my work over, and over again, and send it to my co-workers to review. In my previous jobs, I always had to produce results quickly, but this internship has taught me so much about having the patience to look at the details of the work I am producing. This is a skill that I will continue to incorporate into my work.

Personal Growth

In addition to learning marketing practices, I learned just as much about myself. At the start of my internship, I was unsure of myself and what my true interests were in marketing. This internship gave me opportunities to learn new things and try things to identify what I can do well and what I need improvement on. Having the confidence to ask questions when I was not sure what to do was perhaps one of the most valuable lessons I gained during the internship. For example, I was assigned tasks that I had not worked on before such as writing blogs, creating landing pages, and putting together email newsletters. At first, these projects were very intimidating. However, collaborating with the entire Sharp Wilkinson team as mentors gave me the skills that I will take into my future personal and professional life.
